For me, Great Gatsby has always been my favorite book. I read a lot of love stories during my spare time: Dear John, Sky is everywhere, The flipped, etc. Many people believed that Romeo and Juliet is the most successful love story. From my point of view, The Great Gatsby is the only novel that can be claimed to be the greatest love story and way more than a love story.
Firstly, I do love the background of the story as it happened during the roaring 20s in America( typical Fitzgerald). Narrating by Nick, who just moved to west egg, he introduced us to the main character of the novel——Gatsby and Daisy (the desperate loving bird).I love the whole story (except the ending) as well as the single details of the books, the mega parties, his famous quotes, etc. He is tragic as he is too obsessed about restoring the past with Daisy. Time and tide wait for no man. However, I wish, and I believe most of the people do, to go back to the past, to restart some of our life chapters. I love Gatsby because he is allegiant and his belief in love. At the same time, I have Tom as being self-centered and careless; I hate Daisy, as she is too realistic and selfish.
The beauty of the book is also about its ironic and poetry-like style. In that way, Fitzgerald enrages the reader about the cruelty and the injustice of the world.
What I learned from the book is that sometimes, you need to understand why we need to let it(past, emotions, etc.) go. Also, to reserve the judgments. “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantage that you’ve had.’
